Sometimes it can be hard to determine which drive in Windows correlates to which hard disk in the VM’s settings, especially if you have a number of virtual hard disks with the same or similar sizing.
Whilst, you can use the drive size to determine it. If you have multiple disks with same sizing then it can be difficult. I’ve found that best way to determine it, is as below:
1. Open Disk Management on the Windows VM
2. Note the disk number of the disk you want
3. In vSphere, open the VM’s settings and expand each hard disk
4. Under the Virtual Device Node setting of the hard disk, the SCSI ID number correlates to the number of the drive seen in Windows. This is in the format of (SCSI Bus Number:SCSI ID Number). (In the below example SCSI ID number 0 – Disk 2 (In Windows))
